Work From Home Tricks and Tips

March 23, 2020

By Luci Fioritto

Scary times, I know! Lots of adjustments, and uncertainties, phew! How was your 1st week working from home? If you are straggling or if you feel your routine needs some adds-on to reach a balance, this post will help you.

I remember when I started working from home in 2012, it was not easy. At the time I had no children, and I enjoyed getting ready in the morning, seeing people every day and be in a routine I knew for a long long time, which was going to the office. Sometimes It takes a minute to get used to a WFH (Work From Home) routine, but once you get into the rhythm, trust me, it’s not bad. I ended up going back to the office when I changed jobs, but worked partially remote for a couple of years after, before taking the decision to working for myself and from home full time as a freelancer when I had my second child. So, I considere myself very adaptable and that’s the attitude you need right now: Adapt to stay sane!

If you are new to the WFH thing. Here’s the trick: CREATE A ROUTINE.

  • Wake up at the same time you would if you were going to the office.
  • Use the time you would commute to work and squeeze in a work out – even if 15 minutes it’s all you have, move your body – it will make a big difference on your day and mood.
  • Make your bed – it gives you a sense of accomplishing something
  • Take a shower
  • Dress up, even to a casual look but take off your pijamas or what ever you slept in
  • Brush your hair, brush your teeth and put on deodorant – keep your hygiene, please!
  • For the ladies, if you like makeup, put some on. Even if just a BB cream, blush and mascara. Again, it makes a difference.
  • Have breakfast
  • Try to work in separate rooms if you have a significant other or flat mate also working from home, if possible. Getting some space apart is important.
  • Make a to do list and stick to it
  • Make coffee
  • Get some fresh air
  • Stop for lunch at the same time you would at the office
  • Make more coffee
  • Stretch
  • If it makes you productive and if it’s possible, work outside from your porch
  • Stop working at the time you would while at the office or when you are finished
  • Put your computer and work away for life work balance.

Daily Calendar Activities with your Little One

March 12, 2020

By Luci Fioritto

With the global outbreak of the Coronavirus vírus and the spread among communities, the number of children at home is increasing with school closings. I see parents with the challenge of keeping children busy while at home, so here something I found in my local library worth sharing.

I love to make crafts with my daughters – it’s a way I find to making memories while helping them with their development. While at the my local library a couple of months ago, I found this calendar posted in the youth area that you can print at home, with daily activities you can do with your little one at home to keep them busy.

I have been using this calendar since January and it is so helpful. I get so many ideas from it. For example, with my 4 years old preschooler, we are learning the alphabet and words that start with respective letters. Today is March 12 2020 – according with the calendar, it’s flower day! So we are learning words that start with the letter F and making flowers as part of our art project of the day as you see pictured, besides planting seeds together like the calendar suggested. Carolina who is 18 months also is part of it, of course with some adjustments for her age group.

My girls love it and it is now part of our routine to check the calendar every day to see what’s going on.

Here’s the link for you to print the calendar of your choice accordingly with your age group. Let me know if you like it in comments!

By Luci Fioritto

Which book said no white after Labor Day again? Wait, there’s no such book and the rule is there are no rules. You should wear what makes you happy. I love to wear a good chunky/ oversize knit, white jeans and my winter boots during winter. With that being said what’s your favorite white in white? .

Here some outfit inspiration for you:

E vc? Qual seu look branco no branco favorito? Feliz ano novo 😆

Christmas Lights in Downtown Detroit – Take a Picture

December 5, 2019

By Luci

“It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas… Everywhere you go… – I love this song.

Christmas lights in downtown Detroit keep getting better year after year. We love watching Holidays lights with the girls, it is one of our traditions this time of the year. Last weekend we finally had a chance to check it out, closing our long Thanksgiving holiday weekend perfectly.

Campus Martius Christmas Tree

It was cloudy and it started raining unexpectedly on our way to the city, which it made us almost to change our plans, but since we’re halfway through and so in need of some fresh air, we decided to give it a try. We were also hungry, so we stopped at a place to get a bite, with the hopes the rain would stop. Best decision we made – the rain stopped, we had our bellies full and it wasn’t too cold. The streets were wet, but it wasn’t bad, it actually made it extra fun for the girls with all the puddles.

Cadillac Square Christmas Market

Campus Maritus wasn’t crowded, so we stayed around that area. We had a chance to really look around and see the amazing job the city and sponsors did this year.

Campus Martius

So many adorable spots and interactive installations with the cutest lights and backgrounds to take Holidays pictures in Detroit. Actually I think I’m starting a series of this to give you ideas to take yours. Here are my findings around Campus Martius. Check it out!

By Luci

Confiram!

Transitioning into Fall Look in The Shinola Hotel

September 25, 2019

By Luci

Beginning of fall… i personally love this time of the year! Daylight doesn’t last as long anymore and temperatures start to drop, however the days are beautiful and staying out in the sun feels so incredibly comfortable. It’s time for transitioning outfits, where we basically have to wear 2 in 1 combinations, because of chilly mornings and warm afternoons. An opportunity to pair up a couple of spring/summer pieces with the new season’s fashion.

Photos by Junia Lapp/ Fashion Producer: Marina Anauate

A couple of months ago I finally visited the beautiful Shinola hotel boutique in Detroit. The hotel is located in the city’s shopping district right on Woodward Ave. When you walk in it feels like you are in an art gallery because of all the incredible paintings, furniture, photography and books displayed in its living space. I felt like I was submerged in this mid century modern vibe that made my eyes shine! Oh, and let’s not forget about the great hospitality! I have to say this because the customer experience is everything to me: Every single hotel worker, from the valet guys to the front desk staff said good morning to me. They all had beautiful smiles on their faces, and they seemed happy to be there, which for me completed the vibe of this place.

“The Shinola Hotel Parker’s Alley”, that you see here in my pictures is named after Thomas Parker, one of the first black landowners in the city of Detroit. The alley “is lined with specially-curated shopping options”, which “offers a mix of global brands and homegrown businesses that celebrate Detroit’s entrepreneurial spirit” –

My outfit is Zara and my shoes are from one of my favorite Brazilian brands Schutz.

When I first visited Michigan from São Paulo more than a decade ago, Detroit looked like a ghost town to me, and I didn’t quite understand how such a remarkably iconic American city was left like that, destitute and empty. Nowadays, seeing all the construction, the various projects, and the evolution that has taken place over the years is an amazing experience to watch. There is still a lot to be done, but it makes me so proud and happy. Go Detroit go!

Have you been to Detroit? What’s your favorite spot?

Matching Dresses and Sunflower fields

September 13, 2019

By Luci

Visiting a sunflower farm has been on my bucket list for years, and after having the girls I was determined to find one and share this experience with them.

We found one only one hour away from our house, and the trip was actually very pleasant and pretty with roads full of beautiful farm houses and rural landscape.

I love to spend time outside in nature with my girls. We take every opportunity we have to teach them something through play and experiences. At the farm we taught the girls how the sunflower likes to face the sun and Vivi noticed that they don’t like shade (proud mom moment there). They also could observe the bees and how gentle they are (if not bothered) while collecting their nectar. It was a dream come true for me, and I was glad my husband was able to capture beautiful shots of us before they became hungry and ready for their naps!

Oh and let’s not forget to talk about the matching outfits! I think it’s so cute and my heart melts every time I see two girls twinning dresses. Vivi is tall for her age and sometimes it is hard to find matching dresses, so when I found these at Zara I didn’t think twice. I choose my outfit of the day to match theirs and free people never disappoints.

What about you? What are your plans for these last weeks of summer?

The Satin Midi Skirt Trend

August 7, 2019

By Luci

The satin midi skirt, also known as slip skirt, has been one of my favorites trends this season. Everything started in the 90s,  with the simple and elegant design of the slip dress, which was easy to bring out for any occasion. The skirt version is no different, and it’s easy to pair with everything from t-shirts and sneakers to blazers, sweaters and heels.  Love it!

Adoro!

Colors and Polka dots

July 10, 2019

By Luci

I love the mixing of patterns to create a statement. Polka dot is one of my favorites, because of its versatility and sophistication. It’s summer and it’s hot, so nothing better than an off the shoulder top to feel the breeze. Here I pared it with pink cigarette trousers and one of my favorite statement shoes for a cheerful and sophisticated look. My tip: play with your closet! I’m ready for cocktails on this hot summer day. You?

Cores e bolinhas

Celebrating Yourself

June 20, 2019

By Luci

What if you simply celebrate yourself today? Besides all the unconditional love involved in motherhood, as a mother of two, motherhood for me became also an art of multitasking… 98.9% of the time, I leave the house half ready because life has never been busier, and exhausting! Everything I do revolves around my girls and their schedules.

I am a mother, but before that I spent almost four decades growing as a person. In recent years I feel I have been trying hard to find myself, but motherhood has taught me that life is not about finding yourself, but more so about creating and cultivating yourself so that you can live true!

Motherhood does change our lives, and for the better in my opinion, but the process is long and I continue to learn. It takes time to find a balance. When the time is right you know though, and you will know how to honor that person you were before becoming a mother, and create space for your talents and dreams again.

You do so much… You are so worthy! Celebrate yourself! Go to the gym. Eat something you like or go out for dinner.  Read a magazine or listen to a podcast. Go for a walk…  You can do anything, but do it for you!

I have been celebrating myself by putting some make up on. What about you? How have you been celebrating yourself?

Xoxo, Lulu.

Xoxo, Lulu.

Personal Stylist vs Image Consultant – My personal experience with my closet after two pregnancies

June 13, 2019

By Luci

You know that expression, “I don’t have anything to wear!” It happened to me! Hard to imagine, right? After two pregnancies I wasn’t looking at my closet with the same set of eyes. Several pieces are large and need to be adjusted, because during my two pregnancies I invested in larger numbers rather than on maternity items for me to wear them postpartum. Others are small and don’t fit, because my body is still changing after the birth of my second child – if you didn’t know, in most women, it takes at least a year for the body to return to normal after childbirth, and mine is still adjusting.

That however can bring a bit of frustration to say the least, and especially in women who just had a child. Many women are very hard on themselves and are very critical with their own bodies. That’s why I called my friend and image consultant Marina Anauate Vieira (Instagram @m.anauate) to help me.

Photos by Junia Lapp

Do you know the difference between a personal stylist and an image consultant? I asked Marina and here is the definition:

“A personal stylist works as if the customer were a character and fashion the product. He is responsible for building and crafting the client’s image regardless of his style and personality. He defines the pieces for you and the image that goes behind it. He brings to the table already established looks.

The Image Consultant uses techniques such as: chromatic analysis, body analysis, personal style, personality and lifestyle of the client. She doesn’t use only what it is fashionable or trendy at the moment, but rather what really fits into the style and lifestyle of the customer. The consultant performs a more thorough and thorough work while the Personal Stylist ends up being more superficial. “

I invested in some pieces recently before my meeting with Marina, because my eyes were tired of looking at the same pieces in my closet. The eye of a professional also brings a different perspective. Marina brought in her energy and expertise. She showed me new possibilities aligned with mine and opened me up to combinations that my tired eyes just couldn’t see. Like the lace top pictured here. Believe it or not, I had never worn it!

We stayed part of the morning and early afternoon talking and creating looks according to what I had in my closet and of course the shape of my body. We created three looks, which I will show you in the next posts. I had a great experience and Marina gave me the confidence I needed.

I loved this look! Specially for the fact that it is a great day night look to carry you from the office to cocktails. I’m obsessed with the color palette too! Great for now and fall. Trés cool!

What about you? Do you like this look?

Gostaram? Beijos, Lulu.
